What are the hours of operation
for the Help Desk?
HOURS OF OPERATION:
M-F, 8am-6pm
Where is the Help Desk located?

Monday - Friday from 8am to 6pm.

How can I contact the Help Desk?
You can choose from the following:
CALL US @ (850) 644-HELP (4357) - This is the easiest way
to contact the Help Desk. We have a large staff of qualified
technicians available to answer your call. This will also
save you time since most questions can be answered over
the phone.
SEND E-MAIL to: help@otc.fsu.edu -
Be sure to include your full name and phone number so we
can contact you. Please be descriptive and complete when
you ask for assistance. The more information you can provide,
BROWSE THIS SITE AND THE FSU INTERNET - The website is
open 24/7. If you have time to surf, you may be able to
find what you need by browsing. We have answers to many
frequently asked questions (FAQs) and/or links to access
the answers via other departments at FSU or on the Internet.

What are the recommendations
for the purchase of a new computer?
Our Guide
to Computing Resources is an online reference guide
that addresses most computing questions a new student may
have. If you wish purchase a new
computer or an already
owned computer, take look at our recommendations first.
*Please be sure to make a note of if the student will reside
on or off campus. If the student will reside off campus
you will need to know if the residence will have ethernet
access. This will help you determine if a modem or an ethernet
card is needed.
Can the Help Desk fix my computer
if I bring it in?
The Help Desk strives to provide support to the FSU community.
Unfortunately, we are not equipped to offer this service.
You may wish to take advantage of the services offered
by the Computer

Recipients can't read my email attachment:
It has come to our attention that there are still users within FSU that are still sending attachments using Uuencoding. Uuencoding, as you may recall, is a form of encoding binary files into ASCII format so that mail and attachments can be sent over email systems that by themselves are not capable of transmitting binary characters. Although still used, most mail systems have adopted the MIME format. This has caused a few problems with clients that do not have the ability to read Uuencoded attachments. To ensure that email continues to flow without problems, we ask that you and perhaps any customers that you service check your email clients to ensure that only the MIME format is used for attachments. If your customers have any questions, please feel free to have them call the Help Desk at 644-HELP. They (the Help Desk) has been alerted to this problem. Thank you.
How can I create a
Mailer account?
You can create a Mailer account by going to the CARS website.
Please select New Accounts. You will need to select your
appropriate status, Faculty/Staff or Student. If you have
any more questions about your garnet account, you may find
the answer here.
Can I keep my account when I
leave FSU? How long?
OTI allows FSU email accounts to remain active for a grace
period of at least 120 days after student graduation and/or
employee termination to ease transition to a new Internet
service provider. The account will expire after this time
unless the student re-enrolls in classes or becomes an
employee of FSU. The University currently provides
email forwarding for @fsu.edu email aliases for life.
Do I need to have a
FSU card to get a Garnet/Mailer account?
Yes. You must have your FSU card or FSU card number to
get a Garnet/Mailer account.
Why am I still unable
to sign up for a Garnet/Mailer account even though I
just got my FSU Card?
It takes at least 24 hours for the system to update with
your FSU card information. It may take up to 72 hours.
I tried to create my
Garnet/Mailer account and I got an error.
Many of the errors that occur while trying to create a
Garnet/Mailer account are due to incorrect password formats.
Your password needs to start with a letter and cannot be
your name or your initials. If your password is easily
cracked, the system may also generate an error. Your password
needs to have a special character. We recommend that you
use the following characters: +
- = ! # % .
If you are using the correct password format, try refreshing
the browser window.
What is my employee
number?
Your employee number is your social security number.
Can I access my email while
I am out of town?
You may access your email while you are out of town by
going to the Webmail website.
I am unable to send email in
Outlook/ Outlook Express/Eudora/Etc.
If you are unable to send, it could be from a number reasons.
The two main reasons you may be unable to send email relate
to password issues and internet service provider. Please
test your password (login
on the Webmail site). Then verify your email program
settings. *Check email settings.*

You can forward your email by completing the form on UCS’
Account Maintenance website. You will want to wait
about 2 hours to be sure that request has been processed.
How do I expand the headers
in an email?
Spamcop.net has
a full list of email programs. Find your email program
and follow the instructions.
How do I get an Admin email
account?
If the account is for a new employee, the supervisor or
the departmental technician will need to send an email
to help@otc.fsu.edu.
We will need the users first, middle, last name and the
department the new employee will work under. The request
must be in writing.

How do I change my Mailer
password?
You may reset your password by going to campus.fsu.edu and clicking on 'Reset your password' located to the right of the login area. Enter your FSUID username. If you are a student or employee, you will need to validate your credentials using your FSUCard and your SSN or FSUSN. After validation, you will be asked to enter a new password. This new password may not be one of your last 3 passwords.

login with your FSUID.

do I use to access Blackboard?

to wait about 30 minutes. You will need to try to login
to Blackboard again.
