Using Outlook XP with SSL for JES Upgrad
accounts
Outlook XP is very different from the previous
versions of Outlook.
- Open Outlook. (If the setup wizard opens,
the information that you will need to enter
will be displayed within the following text.)
If the wizard does not open, go to Tools and
then Email Accounts.
- From this window, select Add a New Email
Account. Click Next

- Choose IMAP. Click Next.

- User information. Fill in your user information
appropriately.
Logon information. Your user
name is everything before the @symbol in your
email address. Type your password. If you want
Outlook to remember your password, check the
Remember Password box.
Server Information. Your
incoming mail server will be imap.fsu.edu. If
you live on campus, dialup to FSU or use FSU@Home,
your outgoing server will be smtp.fsu.edu. (see below if you connect through another service provider)

*If you connect to the internet through another
provider, you can use the FSU Outgoing
Mail SMTP server however some ISP services may work if you use their
Outgoing mail server. If you have an internet service provider
other than Embarq, Network Tallahassee (Nettally),
or Comcast, you will need to contact them to confirm that FSU smtp can be used
for their Outgoing Mail Server Name.
Test Settings. This is optional.
Do not check Log on Using Secure Password Authentication
(SPA).
Click the More Settings option. Go to the Advanced
Tab.

- Place a check in the This Server Requires
a Secure Connection box under the Incoming Server
(IMAP). This will change the number to 993.
Click ok.
You can use port 25, 465 or 587. They all work the same and all need TLS. ( Sometimes 25 is blocked at the Windows Firewall or in Norton or McAfee)

- Click Next.
- Click Finished.
All questions can be directed to the Technology Services
Helpdesk (850) 644-HELP (4357). Email the helpdesk at help@fsu.edu.
