Configuring Outlook clients for encryption enforcement
When you enable RPC encryption enforcement, the Outlook
clients must configure encryption, as well. This topic details
how to configure Outlook clients.
To configure Outlook 2000 clients
- Right click the Microsoft Outlook icon on the desktop, then
click Properties.
- If a profile does not exist, click Add, choose Microsoft Exchange
Server, and then click Next.
- Type the name of the FSU AD Exchange server, fsu-ex-32.fsu.edu,
click Next, and then click Finish.
- If a profile already exists, click Show Profiles....
- Choose the appropriate profile, and then click Properties.
- Select Microsoft Exchange Server information service, and
then click Properties.
- On the General tab, verify that the Microsoft Exchange server
can resolve the name of your mailbox by clicking Check Name.
- If you cannot connect, create an entry in the local HOSTS
file that maps the Exchange server's external IP Address to its
NetBIOS name.
- On the Advanced tab, under the section called Encrypt Information,
check when using the network. (For dial up users, you can check
when using dial-up networking.)
- Select Enable offline use, and then click OK.
To configure Outlook 2002 clients
- On the Control Panel (Start, Settings, and Control Panel),
open the Mail icon.
- Click Show Profiles.
- If a profile does not exist, follow these steps:
- Click Add..., and then type a name for the profile.
- Click Add a new e-mail account radio button, then click Next.
- Choose the Microsoft Exchange Server option, then click Next.
- Type in the name of the FSU AD Exchange Server, fsu-ex-32.fsu.edu
- When prompted, enter your password.
- Click Next, and then click Finish.
- If a profile already exists, choose the profile for your Exchange
server.
- Click E-mail Accounts... button.
- Click View or change existing e-mail accounts, and then click
Next.
- Choose the e-mail account for your Exchange server, and then
click Change.
- On the General tab, verify that the Microsoft Exchange server
can resolve the name of your mailbox by retyping your mailbox
name, and then clicking Check Name.
- Click More Settings.
- On the Advanced tab, in the section called Encrypt Information,
check when using the network. (For dial up users, you can check
when using dial-up networking.)
To configure Outlook 2003 clients
- On the Control Panel, open the Mail icon.
- Click Show Profiles.
- If a profile does not exist, follow these steps:
- Click Add..., and then type a name for the profile.
- Click Add a new e-mail account radio button, then click Next.
- Choose the Microsoft Exchange Server option, then click Next.
- Type in the name of the Exchange Server, fsu-ex-32.fsu.edu
- Type in your Windows/Domain/Exchange username.
- Click Check Name.
- When prompted, enter your password. If everything is working
correctly, the Server name and username will resolve, i.e., your
username will change to your last name, first name, and both
server and user names will be underlined.
- Click Next, and then click Finish.
- Once a profile exists, choose the profile for your Exchange
server and click Properties.
- Click E-mail Accounts... button.
- Click View or change existing e-mail accounts, and then click
Next.
- Choose the e-mail account for your Exchange server, and then
click Change.
- Click More Settings.
- On the Advanced tab, in the section called Encryption, check “ Encrypt
data between Microsoft Office Outlook and Microsoft Exchange
Server ” (For dial up users, you can check when using dial-up
networking.)
- Under “ Logon Network Security ”
choose “ Password Authentication (NTLM)
”
- Click Apply and OK.
- Then Next and Finish.
